Research Interests
Meera works on issues related to ecology, conservation science and environmental history. In the field of conservation science, her interests lie in integrating emerging methods in the fields of frugal heuristics and bounded rationality to develop efficient methods for conservation research. Her recent work has focused on multi-disciplinary explorations of human-wildlife conflict, human-animal relationships and the historical and evolutionary aspects of big-game hunting. She has also worked on species diversity in the Indian Himalaya, treeshrews in the Nicobar islands and the long-term history of human-elephant relationships in southern India. Meera works at the Dakshin Foundation and is a consultant at ATREE. She is currently part of the project team that looks at the Kyasanur Forest Disease and other emerging zoonotic diseases in India.
